The Village News, Bellport's Paperless NewspaperFrom The Editor

I'm Pissed

May 24, 2019

For some time I’ve been aware that members of the Bellport Village Board have been referring to as, “Fake News.” Frankly, we don’t deserve to be treated this way. For 15 years has been on the right side of just about every issue whether it was sewers, B&B’s, the “pavilion” at Ho-Hum, vertical street signs, the list just goes on and on.

When I would become aware that members of the Village Board were particularly upset with something I had written, I would ask them… “Is something I said not true?” Their response, “not really.” “Did I exaggerate something?” “Well, no.” “So, you just don’t like what I wrote.” “Yes, we don’t like it!” Well, tough! My job is to provide transparency, not make the Village Board happy. The Village Board calling a Driving Range a Practice Area is not transparency.

For 15 years we’ve kept going by supporting it out of our own pockets because we love Bellport, we’ve lived here a long time, and because we felt transparency was lacking in Village government. For those who have called us Fake News, I’d like to remind you… “The truth should never hurt, unless it ought to!”

If you have a comment and would like to respond to any of the above, we'd be glad to consider printing your response. Please send your comments to You can read the comments we receive on our Letters To The Editor page.
