Their Marine Bureau provides services to Patchogue and Bellport Bay, and conducts patrols of the National Wildlife Refuge and Fire Island National Sea Shore. The Search and Rescue Squad Unit provides services to over 1,500 acres of county parks and federal wilderness areas located within the district. In addition to these services, bike teams provide services to many large scale, local and countrywide events.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, they provided mutual aid service to
New York-Presbyterian EMS, and were deployed to ground zero where they
stayed for three days.
From just eight members and one ambulance
handling 64 alarms a year in 1940, the South Country Ambulance Company has
grown into a department with 126 active volunteer members with 17 vehicles,
that handle 2,600 plus alarms per year.
They are a community
organization with deep roots in the community. They take their
responsibility to serve very seriously. Over the last six years, they have
received the state's top award for Services, as well as the County of
Suffolk's. In an emergency, they will do everything to ensure your safety.
