Brookhaven Art & Music/Brookhaven Youth Orchestra has been in existence for over 20 years offering music and art programs for students K- 12. We are a local community based organization that servicing over 500 participants/students throughout the year. BAM services students throughout Suffolk County from Bayshore to Aquebogue. We employ over 20 educators, staff and assistants throughout the year, who are all NYS certified K-12 holding both Bachelors and Masters degrees. Our goal at Brookhaven Art & Music is to create a safe and nurturing environment for the young musician by providing quality instruction through diverse musical experiences and performance opportunities.

Brookhaven Art & Music currently offers the Young People’s Orchestra, Chamber Ensemble and the Bellport Youth Ensemble Chorus - housed by the South Country School District in the Bellport Middle School. These ensembles are appropriate for students in Grades 3 - 12 and provide opportunities for students to perform in an ensemble outside of their school music program. The BAM Youth Ensembles provide challenging experiences for the young and talented musician designed to enhance and supplement school instruction. Lead by acclaimed music educator and orchestra director, Mr. Philip M. Gelfer, and experienced faculty members, students will be taught challenging literature, ensemble techniques, performance skills and sight reading while discovering a new and exciting ensemble experience. Participants will play, make new friends, experience guest conductors/clinicians and have fun! This program runs weekly during the fall and spring sessions.

BAM also offers an extensive summer music program hosted by the Three Village School District which offers an excellent opportunity for young musicians around the county to begin or continue the study of music. The summer program provides direct music instruction from professional musicians and certified music educators. Students develop musicianship, have fun and enjoy learning music through performance and leave the summer with new skills, friendships and memories. The summer music program is a five week program that begins at the end of June and runs through the month of July.
