The Bellport-Brookhaven Historical Society's "Local History Lectures" presents "Mary L. Booth: An Extraordinary 19th-Century Woman" on Saturday, March 16th at 5:00pm. Author Tricia Foley will present an overview of Mary L. Booth (1831-1889) and her life and times on Long Island and 19th-century New York. Writer/historian/editor/abolitionist/suffragist, Booth was born in Yaphank and went on to write The History of the City of New York, translate 47 books, was the founding editor for Harper's Bazaar and worked for Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War.
